The doctor's acclaimed career began after he earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1999. He then went on to perform his residency in internal medicine, his residency in emergency medicine, and his fellowship in infectious disease at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine/UCLA Medical Center in 2002, 2006, and 2008, respectively. 

Board certified in emergency medicine, Dr. Takhar is a Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM). The ABEM is one of 24 medical specialty certification boards recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. 

Furthermore, he is board certified in internal medicine and infectious disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Emergency medicine, also known as accident and emergency medicine, is the medical specialty concerned with the care of illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. An emergency physician works in an emergency department to care for acutely ill or injured patients on an unscheduled basis.
